What is Athens Mothers’ Center?
The Athens Mothers' Center (AMC) is a non-profit organization founded in 1981 and is part of the National Association of Mothers' Centers.
We are a group of mothers. That is our common bond. We believe that mothering is an important and demanding occupation. We realize that being a mother is a job with good and bad experiences which bring on conflicting feelings.
We offer a place for sharing, listening, learning, and supporting one another. We try to determine some of the common challenges and crises of mothering, and help each member maintain her self-esteem. We believe it is important to grow and learn, through a free and confidential exchange of ideas and current information on child-rearing and other topics.
We are non-judgmental in our attitudes toward various methods of birthing and child-rearing. We do not advocate any one method. We help individuals make informed choices.
We are a non-hierarchical organization. Since there are no elected or appointed positions, there is ample opportunity for the abilities of all women to be utilized and appreciated. We believe that the feelings, opinions and beliefs of each woman are important; therefore all decisions are made by a consensus of the members.
We believe that each mother needs to know that she is not alone. She has friends who care about the job she is doing and how she is feeling.
We offer discussion and activity groups, parenting education, social events, and information about community resources.

Spring Open House is on Jan 6!
AMC welcomes visitors and new members all year round, but 3 times a year we host a special open house. Current members will provide a potluck brunch. The event is very casual, so don’t be afraid to come as you are. None of us are strangers to spit up stained shirts and mom hair days! Spring Open House is set for Friday, Jan 6, 9:30-11:30 am!
new mommy & me session starts jan 24!
Music, play and movement create a fun, educational experience for both mother and child! Geared towards infants and toddlers, Mommy & Me runs for 12 weeks and is led by a Montessori educator. Meets Tuesdays 10-11 am at AMC. Member cost is $36. Non-member cost is $72. Registration open to members only through Jan 13. Non-member registration opens Jan 14 if slots remain. Are you a new or expectant mom or have you recently moved to the Athens area?
Come and meet other moms experiencing similar joys and challenges! AMC is a great way for you and your children to make new friends and develop a local support network! AMC meets Tuesdays & Fridays from 9:30-11:30. Open enrollment is welcome anytime, year-round, so join us when you can or just drop by for a tour to see what we’re all about. Tours are available anytime during AMC hours. Just ask to speak with a coordinator.
